Useful Contacts

National Records of Scotland - the repository of all Scotland's public and legal records. This web site provides information on the range of records held and the history of the records. There is also an online search facility.

ScotlandsPlaces - this is a fairly new site that brings together information on places in Scotland from several different sources.

Registers of Scotland - general information on the services provided by the Registers. If you wish to know the price paid for all properties sold in a particular postcode (like EH10 7) in the last six months, this information can be found on-line from here. The Registers will also carry out simple searches against houses, although they will take a lot longer than Landownership Scotland to do so and they are not professional searchers where more complex enquiries are involved.

National Library of Scotland’s Map Library - there are digitised versions of some very old maps and you can while away the time seeing how your area used to look in days gone by. Some of the old maps are beautiful works of art.

Ordnance Survey - this site provides free maps as well as the location of your nearest options outlet to buy a site-centred scale plan

Law Society of Scotland - the official site of the governing body for Scottish solicitors. You can find contacts for all solicitors in Scotland on this web site, as well as other useful legal information.

Companies House - can be useful to find information on any company registered in the United Kingdom.

Who Owns Scotland - a not-for-profit site planning to eventually map 75% of the privately-owned rural land in Scotland. For reasons explained on the website, you now have to subscribe to view information on this site.
